I Thomas Howlit of Ipswich…

Imprimis I Give to Rebeka, my wiff, one Cow and two heyfers that ar Caled hurs, my litle gray mare: Also I give to my wiff an anuety of five pounds a yeare: to be pd yearly: fifty shilings in corn And fivety shilings in catle: the corne part to be pd half in wheat & malt and half in indian corn: this to be pd at Ipswich wher my wife shal appoint: also that my wifes goods be returned to her she brought

To my son Samuel Howlit, fifty accers of land by [ ] of that which I formerly intended for my Son John Howlit also two twenty Accer lots in the thick woods in topsfield & also fower Accors of medo Also my wil is that my son Samuell Howlit shall paye fivety shilling yearly of the anuety of five pounds that I have Given to my wife in specie according to my will It I Give to my wife a ketle instead of a bed-tick I promised.

It I Give to my dafter Sarah Comings, four pounds to be pd with in four yeares after my decease if she be living or to her heyers: Also 20s to allis Comins at her marriage or at 18 years of age

It for my dafter Mary Perley I have Given her twenty thre pounds which my wil is shud be made up fivty poundes the one half of it within a year after my desseas and the other half within three years after my desseas.

It I Give to Mary Howlit my son John Howlits dafter forty five pounds to be pd to her at the age of eighteen years of age or at the daye of her marriag if she live not to receive it then my wil is that ther shal be ten pounds pd to my son John Howlits wiff

Lastly I ordain my son William Howlit my sole executor of this my last will and testyment to whom I give my debts being pd all the rest of my estat housing Lands Goods & catle utensils of all sorts and debts from whomsoever due unto him & his heyers forever.

It I give to my dafter sarah Comings fower accers of the hasakey medo lying at the moth at the bridg

It I give to my son Samuell howlit the rest of the Hasakey meadow

I doe appoint my Loving friends Capt. John Applton: Major Samull Applton and John Whippl senior the overseers of this my last will and testament & I doe hereby give them power to determine any difference that maye arise betwen my executor and any of the Legates aforesaid a bought the payments aforesaid

It my will is that my son Thomas Howlits wife shall injoy that hundred accers of land I possessed him of til his oldest dafter be at the age of eighteen years or at her daye of marriag & then she shal Injoy one quarter of it: Also when my son Thomas howlits youngest dafter is of the age of eighteen years or at her daye of mariag sh shal injoy on quarter of the hundred accers given to her sd father: & after their mothers desseas they shal injoy the other fifty accors equally divided between them

My wil is that if one of my sonn Thomas Howlits dafters dy befor she is possessed of her portion it shal goe to her sister

My wil is that if my son Thomas howlits two dafters dy befor they are eighteen years of age or married that then my dafter-in-lawe my son Thomas Howlits wiff shal injoy all the hundred accors of land for her lif and at her desseas shall paye out of it to my children then living one hundred pounds which shal be equally divided among them… this fourth of November 1677 :

Suit

Rebecca sued the executor in Sept. 1680 to recover geese and turkeys which she claimed as her own. Thomas Dorman testified that Ensign Howlett had said "No, I meddle not with the geese nor turkeys, for they are hers, for she hath been and is a good wife to me". Isaac Cummings Jr., and Samuel Kingsbury who lived with the Howletts also testified.^[3]
